It was for me…a poem to personalize

We read of Jesus, who was with His disciples in the garden of Gethsemane: “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.’ Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” Luke 22:41-44

Jesus,

In Gethsemane’s garden, You prayed to be strong
in what would overtake You in not very long.

It was for me that You were then betrayed.
It was on You that the task was laid.

As filthy rags, God saw my righteousness claimed–
which is why You stepped in to be defamed.

It was for my sins that You went on trial.
You made the payment for everything vile.

It was for me–this undeserved attack.
It was for me You bore stripes on Your back.

It was for me that You wore the thorns,
and it was for me You bore merciless scorns.

It was for me You walked Calvary’s trail.
It was for me that You endured each nail.

It was for me that You hung in shame.
It was for me–You were taking my blame.

It was for me You painfully died.
It was for me that they pierced Your side.

You did it for me, but in three days You rose.
You did it for me that my case would be closed.

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6 KJV

“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:21-26 NKJV

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17 NKJV

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 NASB

“Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.” Romans 5:1 NLT

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

The Ministry of Angels

Thank God for His mighty angels, spoken of in many scriptures…
Daniel in the lion’s den, Jesus in Gethsemane…include angelic pictures.

Though most of us haven’t seen them visibly today with our own eyes,
in being hospitable to guests we may have–so doing that is wise.

But there are those who’ve seen them and have said they look very strong.
In the Bible they also brought messages, to tell of pathways right or wrong.

We’ve all experienced or heard of times we’ve benefitted from their protection.
They respond to us using God’s Word–they trust its perfect direction.

It’s good for us to remember that they work all around the earth…
yet we can count on them right where we are…these servants of great worth.

I can think of many instances of angelic protection, but here is just one…

When driving on a turnpike with my family, we noticed a driver coming in on the entrance ramp extremely fast–so fast that we called on the name of Jesus and the angels for protection for us all. The driver of that vehicle actually rammed into one of the large, tall lamp posts that were along that highway.  We checked on him later, and though his vehicle was damaged, he, miraculously, was all right.  When the lamp fell, it fell very slowly, almost as if angels were guiding it down, (we believe they were) causing it to completely miss our car. Praise God!

Remembering Billy Graham

Billy Graham went to his home in heaven on February 21, 2018. I’m taking a moment to think of him and his life once again…

I remember attending Billy Graham crusades when I was very young…and anticipating hearing Billy after George Beverly Shea had sung.

Cliff Barrows led the assembled choir in an always joyful way, giving mighty praise to God before someone on stage would pray.

Then Billy would come forward; and with his powerful voice, he’d say we needed to make a decision—God was giving us a choice.

He always pointed to the cross and what Jesus had achieved—redemption through His shed blood on Calvary for anyone who believed.

He said we should repent of our sins and give our hearts to Christ—that His was the only sacrifice which God says has sufficed.

He emphasized that “God loves you” and wants to be your friend, counselor, and advocate—from beginning of life to its end.

He said this earth was not his home—that he was just passing through—and that a home in heaven awaits every believer in Jesus Christ, too.

After many Biblical references, Billy would give an invitation. Then, an amazing number in the place would come forward to his station.

As they came forward, a familiar song helped set so many hearts free—“Just as I am, without one plea, but that Thy blood was shed for me.”

Today, Billy Graham is honored for faithful service to God during his life span. And we continue to share the Gospel of Christ—God’s gracious redemptive plan.

P. A. Oltrogge

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:14-17 NKJV

“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.” Hebrews 13:14-15 NLT

“I will not go to heaven because I am a preacher. I am going to heaven entirely on the merit of the work of Christ.”

“My home is in heaven. I’m just passing through this world.”

Blessing and Victory by the Hand of the Lord

I believe you, God, for every good and perfect gift;
for doubting that would cause me to be adrift
on the devil’s sea of unbelief,
with its dangerous waters and treacherous reef.
Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light.
I believe Your Word and reject any fright.
You’ve promised to shepherd me each new day–
With Your rod and Your staff, You’ll lead the way.
You’re the Light of the World, I can’t go wrong–
I can do all things in Him Who makes me strong.
Strong I am, and it’s easy to receive–
for You have said, just pray and believe.
Your help is sure, and you’ve said I can command
victory over the enemy by Your mighty hand!

Impossibilities Made Possible

Various impossible accounts in the Bible, not in chronological order…

Having been thrown into a den of ferocious lions–would it be possible to survive the night?  Impossible, yet Daniel did survive it, until the morning light. …from Daniel 6

A fiery furnace was stoked so extremely hot that those who threw three God-fearing men into it perished from its flames and heat.  Would it be possible for the three men to survive and come out unharmed with not even the smell of smoke upon them?  Impossible, yet Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did come out of the fire in that miraculous way. …from Daniel 3

He was sold into slavery by jealous brothers and then, while conscientiously working for Potiphar, the Captain of Pharaoh’s Guard, Joseph was falsely accused, by Potiphar’s wife, of improper advances towards her, for which he was then imprisoned.  Would it be possible for him to eventually become reigning ruler in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh?  Impossible, yet that was the case for Joseph. …from the book of Genesis, 37-50

Would it be possible to take down Goliath, a renowned giant of a warrior, that nobody else was brave enough to fight, with only a slingshot and a stone? Impossible, yet David did it…  (His third weapon was his own declarations to Goliath, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin.  But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied…for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” …from 1 Samuel 17

“Now the Midianites and Amalekites, all the people of the East, were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the seashore in multitude.” Would it be possible to fight against them with only 300 men and win?  Impossible, but Gideon and his 300 did so. …from Judges 6-8

Bearing down on the Israelites was Pharaoh and his army as they faced the barrier of the Red Sea.  Was there any way to escape?  Impossible, but God parted the waters in order for the Israelites to cross–then drew the waters back to drown the pursuing enemies. …from Exodus 14

Would it be possible to never doubt about a coming vast flood while constructing a great ship (ark) for years, even decades?  It may have seemed impossible to many that such an incident would occur; but the Bible never records that Noah doubted God on the matter. …from Genesis 6-9

Would it be possible for a young virgin woman to conceive a child without having a husband?  Impossible, but God sent an angel to tell Mary that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and the power of the Highest would overshadow her, for “that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” and “with God nothing will be impossible.”  …from Luke 1

Would it be possible to raise the dead, heal the lame, deaf, blind, maimed, and diseased simply through faith in God?  Impossible, but Jesus and His followers did these things…(and still are doing them today–many ministries have seen/are seeing the miraculous occur.)

Would it be possible to turn a renowned enemy of the gospel (Saul/Paul) into one of the strongest supporters ever of that gospel?  Impossible, but God could do it, and He did. …from Acts 9

Imprisoned by Herod Agrippa, the king, Peter was chained, with four squads of soldiers assigned to him; but he was constantly being prayed for by the church.  Impossible to escape?  Yet God sent an angel to miraculously deliver him. …from Acts 12

Another prison break: “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.” Seemingly an impossible situation, but not so. …from Acts 16

You may be able to add some of your own experiences to this list…

Perhaps you’re facing some “impossibilities” today…

Let’s always remember that our God is the God of the impossible made possible…

Prayer to Receive Jesus as Savior and Lord

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’” John 14:6

…if you’ve not already done so….

After you’ve acknowledged that you, like all, have sinned–then repent and simply receive the free gift of salvation by grace through faith in Christ, to become one of God’s own children….

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith….” from Romans 3:21-26

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come to you in the name of Jesus…

who said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37), so I know You won’t cast me out, but You take me in and I thank You for it.

It’s written in Romans: “But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’” Romans 10:8-13

I am calling on Your Name, so I know you have saved me now.

I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  I believe that He was raised from the dead for my justification, and I confess Him now as my Savior and Lord.

Because Your Word says, “With the heart, one believes unto righteousness,” and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ…and I am saved!  “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Thank You, Lord!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  2 Corinthians 5:17

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?’” Matthew 16:24-25

“Therefore, also God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him, the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:11-13

To the Uttermost…through Christ

“But He holds His priesthood unchangeably, because He lives on forever. Therefore, He is able also to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them. (Here is) the High Priest (perfectly adapted) to our needs, as was fitting–holy, blameless, unstained by sin, separated by sin, separated from sinners, and exalted higher than the heavens.” Hebrews 7:24-26 (The Amplified Bible)

God is able to save to the uttermost…

He’s able to reach any willing soul.

He’s able to love to the uttermost…

Forgiving and making them whole.

He’s able to comfort to the uttermost…

When things have gone hurtfully wrong;

He can heal broken hearts to the uttermost…

Replacing their grief with a song.

He’s able to guide to the uttermost…

Leading beside quiet waters.

He possesses all wisdom to the uttermost…

And shares it with His sons and daughters.

P. A. Oltrogge

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity….” Proverbs 2:6-7

“The Lord is righteous in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them.” Psalm 145:17-19

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians1:3-4

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:18, 19

“The Lord is my strength and song….” Exodus 15:2 and Psalm 118:14

Father, thank You for what Your Son has done…

Father,

I thank You for Your answers even before my prayers have begun…because of what Your Son, Jesus Christ, has done.

I’m seated in the heavenly places—my victory’s been won…because of what Your Son, the Lord Jesus, has done.

At Calvary’s cross, the curse was defeated. All fear I now can shun…because of what Your Son, the Messiah, has done.

Not by my own merit, but by the blood from His veins that had run, I can come before You boldly because of what He’s done.

Regarding the name of Jesus—a greater name, there’s none, because He so pleased You as a perfectly obedient Son.

And, one day, when my race on earth has been completely run, I’ll be immediately in Your presence, because of what Your Son has done.

P. A. Oltrogge

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.” 2 Peter 1:16-18

“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” Words of Jesus in Matthew 6:7-8

“Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.” Ephesians 1:15-21

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespassses, made us alive together with Christ, (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:4-10

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:17-19

“So we may boldly say: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’” Hebrews 13:6

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11

How Great (BIG) is Our God

…And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

It’s important to contemplate the “BIGNESS” of our God. That’s a rarely used word, as some have considered its usage to be odd.

But BIGNESS is very appropriate for Almighty God’s description. And, for the renewing of our minds, it’s an excellent prescription…

to keep us from thinking small, when the works of our God are VAST. Trees, mountains, planets and the stars by His words were cast.

…galaxy image/Pixabay

The Israelites were enabled to cross over the Red Sea upon dry land, when the waters were parted by Moses’ reliance on God’s victorious hand.

God’s GREATER power delivered three men from Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace fire. They didn’t even smell of smoke despite going through something that dire.

And the GREATNESS of God’s merciful love was plainly displayed…when all of mankind’s sins on His own beloved Son were laid.

“He who has seen Me has seen the Father,” are words that Jesus said. That BIGNESS was displayed when He raised Lazarus from the dead.

And many other difficulties brought before Jesus turned out to perfection—but the GREATEST triumph of all was at the moment of Jesus’ own resurrection.

So let’s remember the BIGNESS of our MIGHTY GOD in heaven—in every situation—even BIG forgiving—seventy times seven!

And remember to give as BIG as you can to others who have needs. “He who waters will himself be watered.” There’s blessing in such deeds.

The WIDENESS of His mercy, the BIGNESS of His heart…Don’t think small when thoughts that are BIG are what God wants to impart.

I believe in miracles, because I’ve had some God-given ones prior. I believe in miracles, are words that encourage and lift us higher.

And I believe in Jesus, the miracle worker, who was called a Nazarene. With our expectation in Him, and what He’s already done, miracles are sure to come on the scene.

Greater Revelation

“Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” Psalm 119:18 NKJV

Lord, reveal to us something more, in reading accounts from the Old…
and from the New Testaments, let wondrous things be told.

Thank You for speaking to us individually by Your Holy Spirit within..
for there are many Biblical examples which say that we can win.

The man with the withered hand, the woman with the issue of blood…
The man lowered from a roof, who was healed, Noah’s protection from the flood.

Lepers and those who were blind, those who were unable to hear…
many received their healing, Jesus, when they believed You and drew near.

David obliterated a mocking giant by faith that the battle was Yours.
And there are Biblical accounts of Your angels opening prison doors.

You cast out demons that had people bound, You stilled the angry sea.
You taught and gave us authority over all the power of the enemy.

Enlighten our minds and hearts as we meditate upon Your Word…
Guide us by its light–thereby, we’ll walk in faith and always rest assured.
