Declare You’re Under “the Blessing”

…of the blood covenant through Jesus….

When a devilish adversity has been pressing…keep declaring, “I’m living under the good Lord’s blessing!”

“I have the victory, and, by faith, I have it now; so to any thoughts of defeat, I refuse to bow…”

Resist the devil–he has lost, which is a fact that should be repeated. Jesus came to destroy the devil’s works, which He did, and the devil is defeated!

We enforce Jesus’ triumph over him.  We’ve been deputized. The devil is defeated–through the life, death, and resurrection–the name and the blood of Jesus. This is truth that the Bible has emphasized.

Honoring Dr. Jerry Savelle

In case some of you have not yet heard, Dr. Jerry Savelle went home to heaven on Monday, April 15. He deserves much honor for his life and ministry. A description of those is given at his ministry website: http://www.jerrysavelle.org

Most likely, his ministry will continue there. His daily devotionals at the site are always encouraging and insightful, as also are the teaching programs posted there. He emphasized the Word in overcoming, by faith, the trials of life–and in trusting for the favor of God on the believer’s life, of which he shared many examples he’d experienced. He also related various accounts of the miraculous in his own life. (His telling of the restoration of his daughter’s fingertips after they were severed, can be found on an internet search. And the story of an angelic encounter of assistance one late, dark night on a road “in the middle of nowhere” was inspiring and amazing.)

I thank God for the life of Jerry Savelle and that many were richly blessed by his ministry. And I’m grateful for others, too, whom God has sent, to help build us up in the Word. He was among those whose programming was/is featured at: http://www.govictory.com

Blessing and Victory by the Hand of the Lord

I believe you, God, for every good and perfect gift;
for doubting that would cause me to be adrift

I believe Your Word and reject any fright.

The Resurrected Lord Appears at the Sea of Galilee

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples several times–for instance, once at the Sea of Galilee. In the group were Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, two other disciples, and the sons of Zebedee.

Peter announced he was going to go out to fish; and they all decided they would join him, too, on the boat. They fished all night but caught nothing; and in the morning they saw Jesus on the shore as they were afloat.

They didn’t realize this was the Master when He called to them as “friends,” asking if they had fish aboard. “No,” they said–but then took His advice, that a shift of the net to the right side shouldn’t be ignored.

When they did as He said, they came into such an abundance of fish that they weren’t able to haul in the net, which caused them to remember a previous miraculous catch–an incident they could never forget.

John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, spoke up first, saying, “It is the Lord!” They all were overwhelmed and excited. Peter, in his eagerness, threw on his tunic, and jumped into the sea for the shore–so unable to wait to be reunited.

The others followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, with which Jesus had just blessed–such a great haul. A fire of burning coals with fish and also bread was ready on shore, where the Lord wanted to dine with them all.

Jesus said that they should bring some of the fish just caught–153 large fish in all, and yet the net wasn’t torn. “Come and have breakfast,” was His warm greeting to His disciples there on that joyful and, to them, miraculous morn.

Have you fished all night, are you not expecting to see the Lord show up, do you think miracles are few and far between? Well, He’s the resurrected Lord, and is “ALIVE forevermore!” We can expect to see miracles yet like none we’ve ever seen!

The various versions of the Bible have Jesus calling out to His disciples in this account in different terms.  “Children” is written in the King James Version–which they were, beloved children of God.

In the Gospel of John, we read of John as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” Of course, all of His disciples were the recipients of His love, as we also are today!

As Simon Peter may have remembered…

I once said to the Master, Jesus, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!” Yet, I was forgiven by Him and blessed to be a part of His Father’s redemptive plan.

I remember when Andrew came to me with some news that truly amazed–that by way of John the Baptist, he had found the Messiah, who was to be praised!

Jesus became our teacher, and we left our nets to follow Him. This meant leaving our daily livelihood, so we weren’t simply doing so on a whim.

No, we knew that this was big. We began to see many miracles taking place–miracles of healing, provision, and protection were wrought by Him, revealing to all God’s grace.

The lame, the blind, and the deaf were finding that the Master was always willing. We disciples saw Him calm the sea during a storm that had been frighteningly chilling.

Another time, faith arose within me to walk towards Him upon the sea. He quickly saved me from sinking below the depths when fear had gotten the better of me.

Once, Jesus took me with James and John on a destined mountain climb, where He was transfigured before us–Elijah and Moses appeared at the time.

I suggested that three tabernacles be built for each, not knowing just what to say. Then a cloud came around us with a message from God on that remarkable day.

It was the voice of His Father in heaven, telling us that this was His beloved Son, and that we should listen to Jesus–His raiment was white as no launderer could have done.

Just as quickly as it had begun, the experience ended and we were alone. We often could expect the unexpected–such was His ministry’s tone.

HIs raising of Lazarus from the dead wasn’t envisioned by any of us disciples, though. Imagine our reaction when we saw death reversed to loose Lazarus and let him go.

I once gave the Lord the use of my boat, for Him to minister from to those on shore…only to be given back the catch of a lifetime–He gave back to us always more!

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!” I declared to Him one day. He said His Father in heaven had revealed that truth to me about the Son, who had taught us all to pray.

At the Passover meal, I was taken aback when Jesus came to me to wash my feet. I allowed Him, though, for He said to be a part of Him, it was a duty I needed to let Him meet.

What a blessed remembrance, to have spent that time with the Lord in the upper room…before His betrayal and crucifixion and eventual resurrection from the tomb.

Of course, I felt remorse for my own denial of Him–my boasted loyalty and support having failed. But afterwards, I came to my senses, realizing that I was one…for whom, to the cross, He’d been nailed.

We disciples were so happy when He appeared to us after His glorious resurrection–and later were so glad to spread the news that Jesus is Lord…by the promised Spirit’s direction.

I loved to tell of Him throughout the following years and was always looking toward…that time of my reunion with Him, the Master and Teacher whom we all had adored.

From Aversion to Conversion

“…’If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:20-21 NIV

Recently I was criticized by a nonbeliever whom I know, for believing that Jesus is Lord.

That this person would do this made me sad for a while, but then my peace was restored.

God brought to my mind a hopeful thought of the caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis instead.

I then saw my critic as a “caterpillar,” whose spiritual blindness could eventually be “shed.”

For God can transform those who are opposed to Him; for instance, Saul became the Apostle Paul.

Though once a persecutor of Christians himself, he was changed and responded to God’s call.

As Saul, he consented to the stoning of Stephen, and it’s possible that Stephen’s prayer at his own death…

brought about Saul’s Damascus Road conversion. “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin,” were the last words from Stephen’s breath.

As Far as God is Concerned…

..when facing any difficulty…

As far as satan is concerned, the situation is hopeless and done;

but as far as God is concerned, the Championship is won!

The battle is the Lord’s, and the victory is ours.

Our part is to pray, trust, and obey, being mindful of God’s powers.

We put on the whole armor of God–we’re not to lose heart.

“Above all,” we take the shield of faith and quench every demonic dart.

Tell His Disciples–and Peter…

“Leaving that region, they traveled through Galilee. Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was there, for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them. He said to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead.’ They didn’t understand what he was saying, however, and they were afraid to ask him what he meant.” Mark 9:30-32 NLT

A poetic account derived from Mark 16:1-20:

…When the Sabbath was past…

Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome brought spices to the tomb.

That the large stone before its entrance would be rolled away, they couldn’t have presumed.

Nor could they have thought that an angelic being would, amazingly, greet them there…

with a message to give to Jesus’ disciples “and Peter,” which the angel began to share.

He said they weren’t to be alarmed that Jesus’ body wasn’t there, for He’d risen from the dead!

He was going before them into Galilee–and they would see Him there, as He had said.

Further, we read on, that the disciples were mourning; and, in despair, they had wept…

Mary Magdalene, to whom Jesus first appeared, came and told them of His promise that He had divinely kept!

But when they heard that He was alive and had appeared to her, they were in disbelief…

Two others shared, but only Jesus’ actual appearance as they sat at the table could halt their grief.

Jesus rebuked them for their hardness of heart–that they’d been so doubtful and yet…

He went on to commission them to share of Him…to be fishers of men with His great gospel net.

In Mark 16:17-18, Jesus tells of miraculous signs that would follow “those who believe.”

And those who trusted Christ as Savior would be saved–no condemnation would they receive.

After His sharing of this, Jesus ascended into heaven and sat down at God’s right hand…

Then, the disciples went forth preaching everywhere–His Word being confirmed with signs following, as God had planned.

And that great commission from Jesus continues to this day…

for He is risen!…a fact that all of the Lord’s believers know and joyfully say!

In John 21, Jesus asked Peter three times if He loved Him. (Peter had denied the Lord three times on the night of His betrayal.) Peter affirmed that he did love Jesus, so Jesus told him that he was now to feed and tend to His lambs and sheep…

A Basic Understanding

What’s so good about Friday?

It’s Good Friday and I want to do something I’ve never done before. I want to talk about it.

Today we recognize that 2024 years ago Jesus Christ died on a cross.

But the significance of Jesus’ death doesn’t make sense until you understand Passover.

The story of Passover is found in Exodus chapter 12. The Israelites, who were slaves in Egypt, were instructed by God through Moses to sacrifice a spotless 1-year-old male lamb and put the blood of the lamb around their door frames. 

That night, the Lord killed every firstborn child and every firstborn animal in Egypt, but the Lord passed over the houses with the blood of the lamb on the door.

That was the tenth and final plague that compelled the Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave Egypt, freeing them from 400 years of slavery. The Lord provided a way for the Israelites to be saved from His judgement, but they had to follow His instructions. They had to obey. 

Exodus 12:21-30 “Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 

When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants. When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’

Then the people bowed down and worshiped. 

The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron. At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.”

The Israelites were saved by the blood of the lamb. 

But this wasn’t just a one time thing. God required the Israelites to observe Passover every year and to continually sacrifice animals as a substitution for their sins. This brutal practice served as a sober reminder that the penalty for sin is death and that God continually provided a way for His people to escape this judgement. (Numbers 28:1-40)

Approximately 1300 years later, Jesus of Nazareth was born to a virgin, and because of this, He did not have a sinful nature. Jesus lead a sinless life, innocent of all wrongdoing. 

When the prophet John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John also said, “He is the son of God.” (John 1:29-34) 

Jesus spent his ministry on earth doing three things: teaching about the kingdom of God, forgiving sin, and healing the sick. Jesus showed us God’s love, compassion and mercy for us, through His words and actions.

And are you ready for this mind-blower…

The blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, was shed during Passover.

Jesus was the pure and spotless Passover Lamb, who offered himself up as a sacrifice for us. He suffered the brutality of crucifixion on a cross and God poured out His wrath on Him to pay the penalty for your sin and for my sin and to spare us from judgment, eternal separation from God, and torment in hell. 

We are saved by the Blood of the Lamb.

But the story doesn’t end there. Jesus conquered death, rose again three days later and is now seated on the throne in heaven at the right hand of the Father. His Kingdom has come. And we will all stand before Him one day and give an account for our lives.

The Hebrew name for Jesus, Yeshua, means to rescue, to deliver, to save.

No amount of good deeds can offset the sin you have committed and spare you from judgment and punishment.

The beautiful message of Jesus is that salvation is a gift from God that no one deserves and yet is available to all who believe in Him. He is our heroic savior.

“For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.” -Romans 3:23

“The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is enteral life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” -Romans 5:8

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” -Romans 10:9 

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” -Romans 10:13“

This is why Good Friday is so good!

Jesus is my King. I love Him. I follow HIm. I obey Him. He is my life, my healer and my savior. And my prayer today is that you will be overwhelmed by His love for you and that you will come to know Him as I have.

May you prosper in health even as your soul prospers

Like other people, I’d heard some stories about the man named Jesus. He’d done unheard-of miracles and had lived a life that was upright and clean.

So, I never thought I’d arrive in Jerusalem at such a terrible time, of seeing Him being brutally led to His own crucifixion…that was the scene.

It seemed incomprehensible that His acts of compassion were being “rewarded” with this punishment to which He was going.

I could see that He was becoming too weak to bear the heavy cross. He’d obviously been scourged, and blood from the stripes was flowing.

Suddenly, I was pressed into service by some of the Roman soldiers. I was ordered to carry His cross, in His stead, as His strength was depleted.

Had He done something criminal that I hadn’t heard of in His recent past? I didn’t know, but the mocking and reviling were being repeated.

Of course, I didn’t appreciate being singled out for such a despicable task. It seemed obvious to me that I’d been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But something in the eyes of this Jesus, who staggered beside me, reflected kindness; and I sensed something noble or majestic—nothing of crime.

After reaching the destination, I couldn’t bear to watch the proceedings. If He’d been wrongly accused, there was nothing I could have done to stop the event.

So I left; but, later, darkness came over the land, and an earthquake caused tombs to open. Some people were reported as having been raised from the dead after the temple curtain was rent.

After all that had happened, a centurion and other guards declared that, truly, Jesus was the Son of God. Perhaps my unchosen role in this—being singled out—had, instead, been a divine appointment.

A great many people were recipients of Jesus’ ministry, and believed that He was who He said He was. That day lives large in my memory; and His disciples are saying that His Name is God’s healing and saving ointment.

One of Jesus’ disciples, Peter, regarding a man made well by the name of Jesus, spoke to the rulers, elders, and scribes gathered in Jerusalem:

“…let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone.  And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:10-12 NASB
