God’s Heart of Compassion

“Peace be with you.” John 20:21

The Lord’s great heart of compassion is at work always–at times, behind the scenes.

He answers prayer for salvation, guidance, protection, healing, and provision well beyond our means.

Let’s not limit Him by doubting that He can do more than we could ever ask or think.

Jesus came to establish the new covenant. Now, through Him, we have that blessed link.

“The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works,” the Bible’s stated.

God’s desire is to love, through His Son, to even greater measure, every person He’s created.

“If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, you shall be free indeed,” Jesus said, all because of that compassionate heart.

When you take Jesus as Savior, you can forget the past, knowing God’s given to you a fresh start.

Even if there are times when you don’t recognize that He’s working in your life right then,

He encourages you to always keep the faith. He’ll bring things to pass, though you may not know when.

Jesus told us of God as His heavenly Father. Those in Christ are children of God. Therefore…

as part of His beloved family, we can expect all of the good things that He has in store.

P. A. Oltrogge

And likewise, we want to extend loving compassion to others…

“…to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:19-21 NKJV

“The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:9 NKJV

“In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'” 1 Corinthians 11:25

“to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12:24 NKJV

“If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36 KJV

“But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.” Psalm 86:15 KJV

“Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8 NASV

“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference.” Jude 21-22 KJV

Psalm 78:38; 111:4; 145:8; Matthew 9:36; 14:14; 15:32; Mark 1:41; 5:19; 6:34; 8:2; Luke 10:33; 15:20; John 3:16; 1 John 3:17

Peace, love, and joy

Words of Jesus:

“I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT

“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.” John 15:9-17 NLT

A Law to Claim and Proclaim

Those brothers of fame, Orville and Wilbur Wright, surely took plenty of heat
from critics who thought that travel should occur only on water, a track, or a street.

Their critics didn’t share the “vision” of those boys who were really fervent to fly.
The Wrights believed in a higher law and refused to let their dream of flight die.

Because of their endurance and steadfast spirit, we now rely on “the law of lift.”
To travel by air, versus land or water only, has created a beneficial shift.

Similarly…

If you’ve had an illness that’s been difficult to bear that’s tried to keep you down,
remember the higher law of the Lord–be healed before receiving your crown.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.
Refuse every doubt, don’t fear, only believe–as long as you still have your breath.

P. A. Oltrogge

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2 NKJV

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” Matthew 9:35 (NKJV)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

“…that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.’” Matthew 8:17 (NKJV)

“…for by His wounds you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

“…but he cried out all the more, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!'” Mark 10:48 from the account of blind Bartimaeus receiving his sight in Mark 10:46-52

Exodus 15:26; Exodus 23:25-26; Psalm 91:3; Psalm 91:10 and 16; Psalm 103:1-5; Psalm 107:19-20; Psalm 118:17; Psalm 139:14; Proverbs 4:20-22; Proverbs 12:18; Proverbs 16:24; Proverbs 17:22; Isaiah 53:4-5; Isaiah 55:11; Isaiah 57:19; Matthew 7:11; Matthew 8:2-3; Matthew 15:30-31; Mark 11:23-26; Mark 16:15, 17-18; Luke 18:27; John 10:10; Acts 10:38; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25; Galatians 3:13-14; James 1:17; 1 John 4:4; 3 John 1:2 and others.

Praising God today for healing and miracles we’ve seen and those yet to come forth. To some who doubt that healing is for today, who point to seeming defeats (though those who go on to see Jesus are certainly victorious, too) we affirm that our faith continues to be and is always based on and inspired by the Word of God.

A prayer on this Mother’s Day

Dear Lord,

Today we lift up our prayers for those mothers (and fathers) who have found themselves in areas where disasters, such as earthquake, storms, and war have struck. We pray you will renew their courage and strength and that they will be able to get the help they need. Help us to support those who go with aid, both with our prayers and our giving.

And a special prayer…thank you, as well, for being mother and father to the orphans through your people who minister.

In Jesus’ Name we pray,

Amen

The Source of My Help

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills–
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2

Lord, you are the source of my help on any given day.
You made the heavens and the earth–On you, my hope will stay.

I will look even to the hills–On their horizon, I’ll always see,
through the eye of faith, my Savior, heading down with help for me.

P. A. Oltrogge

“He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.”

Psalm 121:3-8 NKJV

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” words of Jesus in John 14:27 NKJV

As Though in Prison With Them

“Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.” Hebrews 13:3

Dear Lord,

Daily, we must remember those imprisoned for their Christian beliefs,
for they are on a sea with treacherous shoals and dangerous reefs.

We hear reports of them taking beatings as they refuse to deny their Savior;
so we pray for them and ask for mighty and extraordinary favor.

We declare that before their enemies, You will prepare for them a table–
due simply to the supernatural favor of God–we know that You are able.

We pray their captors’ hostility will become compassion for them;
and we claim that whom the Son makes free is free indeed, a scriptural gem.

We know that some have gone on to heaven–that’s “made free” as well;
but we’re believing, Lord, yet for divine releases here on earth to tell.

Thank you for those who stand for these people legally, citing human rights–
We ask Your wisdom and courage for them in assisting the persecuted in these fights.

We pray that Your strength is upholding those imprisoned for their faith in You,
and we pray a continued sense of Your presence for their beloved families, too.

We take authority over blinding spirits, which affect leadership in lands so cruel,,
remembering that the prayer of faith for the imprisoned is our most effective tool.

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

Something to Consider

Consider the Birds and the Lilies

Look at the birds of the air…
They don’t sow, reap, or gather
Their needed food into barns–
But are dependent upon God, rather.

Consider how the lilies are clothed–
They toil not, nor do they spin,
But to the heavenly Father’s care
They’re blessed to give in.

Yes, consider these,
And consider giving in
To the message of Christ’s love
Above this world’s din.

Partake, through the Bible, from God’s table
Of spiritual food fit for a King’s heir,
And be clothed in the love of Jesus,
The finest thing you could wear.

Consider the children,
So gentle and so tender–
What kind of faith
To them will you render?

One that speaks dislike
And contempt of others–
Or one that speaks love
And draws all men to be brothers?

The heavenly Father gave Jesus
To tell of God’s care and to guide.
When we take Him as Savior, He gives love
For all others for whom He has died.

So just like the lilies
Or the birds of the air,
May people of all nations be blessed to give in
To Jesus–the way to the Father God’s care….

P. A. Oltrogge

“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies….” Luke 6:27

“And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.’” Matthew 22:37-40

“For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span? And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these. But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith? Do not be anxious then, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘With what shall we clothe ourselves?’ For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:25-34

On this Valentine’s Day

Love Sonnet to Jesus

How do I love Thee? Let me count the ways…
I love Thee for giving me breath to praise.
I love Thee for all that you’ve done for me…
In deepest love, you bore my sin penalty.

And through what you have done on a cruel cross,
I can pray in faith and you’ll still “come across”
With answers to prayer as I continue to trust.
Your power has a loving and faithful thrust.

You provide shelter, food, and clothing to wear,
And commission me to the challenge with others to share
Of the things of this life and that which is enduring–
The Gospel of Christ, our eternal, strong mooring.

I love Thee for causing your goodness to reflect
Through family, friends, and teachers I respect.
I love Thee for your Word, which teaches right and wrong;
And my soul is pointed to you through beautiful song.

I love Thee for showing me your artistic impression
As seen in what you’ve created with gifted expression.
I love Thee for giving me the Holy Spirit,
My Comforter–not an audible voice, yet I can hear it.

I love that I can trust that by you I’m being led,
So intimately I’m known, even the number of hairs on my head.
I love Thee for your compassion–the goodness of your ways…
I love Thee that you promise to be with me all of my days.

P. A. Oltrogge

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

“…He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.’”
Hebrews 13:5

“Delete” Worry

Cleanse me of worry, oh Lord.
I lay my concerns at Your feet,
for it’s only in letting You solve them
that these problems will meet their defeat.

When worrisome thoughts do come around,
I’ll trust You to help me to stand my ground.
Worry can only cause hurt in a life–
It can touch others, as well, and even cause strife.
For worry is a poison to resist and forsake–
Instead, from God’s goodness and mercy I’ll take.

So thank You for cleansing me of worry,
reminding me to turn up the PRAISE,
for You are a God of deliverance and peace,
and it’s only Your banner I’ll raise!

P. A. Oltrogge

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God who is our salvation. God is to us a God of deliverances; and to God the Lord belong escapes from death.”
Psalm 68:19, 20

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 KJV

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV
