Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee, and Thou with me, Lord.
Thou my great Father; and I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for the fight,
Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight;
Thou my soul’s shelter, Thou my high tower.
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I need not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always.
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart.
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, after victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

This old hymn uses words like Thou and Thy, as found in the King James version of the Bible, but speaks of a son’s (or daughter’s) love for and focus on God as their Father (Abba, Father) and that He and His Word are a shield and sword, a shelter and a high tower for them.

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39 NASB
