In a recent look at God’s artistry in creation, I wrote of the beauty that is captured in a “pink” sky. But some friends found their thoughts turning to a “red” sky, which Jesus spoke of in Matthew 16. Jesus said the following to the Pharisees and Sadducees, who wanted Him to show them a sign from heaven.
“When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.’ And He left them, and went away.”
May those who have not yet believed, reflect today on the claims of Jesus Christ and the importance of discerning the times that they are living in.
For the believer, an obvious discernment is the priority of prayer.

“And as the crowds were increasing, He began to say, ‘This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign shall be given to it but the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so shall the Son of Man be to this generation.’” Luke 11:29-30
