A Subtle Betrayal of Jesus

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23 NIV

Have your desires for achievement, success, or fame
Caused you to betray the Savior and His name?
Thirty pieces of silver were what Judas sought,
But sorrow and regret were all that they bought.

Similarly, are you, who know of His grace,
Selfishly ignoring Him, thus kissing His face?
Follow the Lord, Jesus, listening daily for His way,
For therein is true wealth that won’t be cast away.

P. A. Oltrogge

“‘Arise, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!’ And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up, accompanied by a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, ‘Whomever I shall kiss, He is the one, seize Him.’ And immediately he went to Jesus and said, ‘Hail, Rabbi!’ and kissed Him. And Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, do what you have come for.’ Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him.”
Matthew 26:46-50

“Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, ‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.’ But they said, ‘What is that to us? See to that yourself!’ And he threw the pieces of silver into the sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.”
Matthew 27:3-5

“Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.'”
Hebrews 13:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7
